Bed And Breakfast in Daytona, Florida

Built in 1912

Our Bed & Breakfast is a historic home in Downtown Daytona Beach. The building was  originally a church until the late 40’s when it became The Coquina Inn – named after the amazing native Coquina Stone it is built from. The Inn was built in 1912 of Stone from the Tomoka River Basin.

It was designed by Daytona Beach architect S.H. Grove for Dr. Fredrick J. Walters who served as a parsonage for the City’s first Methodist Church for 35 years. In 1947, Ann Christofferson – Dr. Fredrick’s daughter – along with Dennis Height as the manager, The Coquina Inn came to be. In 1947, the Inn was switched from an oil-burning furnace to natural gas and electric.

It has been in operation for more than 30 years with many different Inn Keepers. Thanks to the various owners who made different upgrades, you can experience an interesting eclectic feel to the home.

What Our Guests Have To Say...

Ms. Maggie South Country

Meet Ms. Maggie

Ms. Maggie was born in Brooklyn, NY to Joseph & Adele Gallo. She was named Marguerite Ann, after her grandmothers. Maggie grew up living in a corner brick house her grandfather built, surrounded by her large Italian family. At a young age M was in the kitchen helping Gram prepare meals for the family. This is where her love of cooking & of enjoying people surrounded by good food, enjoying each other’s company was built. Loudly, I might add.

When she was old enough, she set out to find herself. Starting out with various jobs. The art of creating was a big interest for her. Not one to sit behind a desk all day, M decided cosmetology was her best bet. She enjoyed 35 years as a Hair stylist & eventually built a very lucrative career. Mom moved to Florida in 1971.  At a relatively young age, Maggie became a snowbird. With all that moving up & down the East coast, she had to find work to subsidize her income till she built a clientele. Waitressing, bartending & eventually cooking were her choices. She went to New England Culinary Institute to earn a culinary degree. Realizing she didn’t really like working alone in a hot kitchen, she stuck with hairdressing. She missed the action involved with being around people. Years later M became involved with buying, renovating & flipping houses. This is when she started thinking about an Inn. What fun it would be to have a big rambling house filled with people where she could enjoy all the things that bring her joy. Renovating, gardening & cooking. Creating beautiful spaces for people to enjoy, outdoor spaces bosting natural beauty, cooking meals to make your mouth water & continually meeting new  & different people visiting the Inn.

In 2020 Maggie came upon this beautiful old corner stone house reminding her of the home she grew up in. Deciding this is the place she would spend the rest of her life.  Daytona Beach, centrally located in the historic district of motor city with miles of sandy beaches & beautiful live oak trees.

Ms. Maggie’s South Country Inn came to be.
